Chris Roberts is an award-winning video editor, trainer and writer based near Birmingham, UK.
Production Work
After graduating with a First Class degree in Drama from Bristol University and a Masters degree in TV Production from the University of Manchester, I began my career editing feature packages on BBC local radio before moving into corporate video production.
Over the years I have edited a huge variety of projects from corporate training DVDs and online promotional videos, to short dramas, broadcast documentaries and sports programmes, and have expanded my skills to include motion graphics design, colour correction and grading.
A selection of my editing work is available on my Showreel Page.
Recent credits include editing for the Tour de France coverage for ITV4 and the BAFTA and Broadcast Award winning property show The Great House Giveaway.
This experience is useful when delivering training courses as I am able to bring real-world experience and practical examples to my training. Similarly, an in-depth knowledge of software and workflows benefits my production work.
Training & Writing
I began delivering training in 2003 before becoming an Apple Certified Trainer in 2005. In 2008 I became one of the first Apple Certified Master Trainers in Europe and a Mentor Trainer for Apple, delivering Final Cut Pro Train-The-Trainer classes throughout Europe.
In 2011 I became an Adobe Certified Instructor for Premiere Pro and was among the first in the world to re-certify as an Apple Certified Trainer for both Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5. In the following years I provided Final Cut Pro X and Premiere Pro CC training for numerous clients, including Associated Press, BBC News and the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Since 2017 I have been a Blackmagic Design Master Trainer, running DaVinci Resolve Train-The-Trainer courses throughout Europe and the US. I have also written The Editor’s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18 and co-authored The Beginner’s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18 official training guides.
Over the years I have also contributed a number of articles to magazines and online publications such as Macworld UK and the (sadly now deceased) Final Cut Pro community website FCP.co, as well as being the technical reviewer for The Focal Easy Guide to Final Cut Pro X.
I have delivered training in video editing to university students and staff, broadcast journalists, sports, factual and drama editors. I have also run bespoke training in video production for a variety of private and public sector organisations and charities throughout the UK, across Europe and beyond.
Some Personal Stuff
I live in Worcestershire with my partner Samantha and a robotic vacuum cleaner. When not working I enjoy long walks, reading post-apocalyptic fiction, listening to hard rock and blues music, battling aliens or zombies on the PlayStation 5 and binge-watching the TV I invariably miss. I'd like to add DIY to this list, but admitted a long time ago that I'm just not very good at it.
