Chris Roberts is a freelance video producer, video editor and experienced video editing trainer based near Birmingham, UK.
After graduating with a First Class degree in Drama from Bristol University and a Masters degree in TV Production from the University of Manchester, I began my career editing feature packages on local radio before moving into corporate video production.
Over the years I have edited a huge variety of projects from corporate training DVDs and online promotional videos, to short dramas and broadcast documentaries, and have expanded my skills to include motion graphics design, colour correction and grading. This experience is useful when delivering training courses as I am able to bring real-world experience and practical examples to my training. Similarly, an in-depth knowledge of software and workflows benefits my production work.
Between 2003 and 2005 I was a regular contributor and host for the UK Final Cut Pro User Group (UKFCPUG) in the Midlands. During this time I was also a contributor and technical reviewer for “Creative Titling for Final Cut Pro” published by Ilex Press and have over the years contributed articles to Macworld UK and the Final Cut Pro community website FCP.co.
I began delivering training in 2003 before becoming an Apple Certified Trainer in 2005. In 2008 I became one of the first Apple Certified Master Trainers in Europe. Soon after I was invited to become a Mentor Trainer for Apple, delivering Final Cut Pro Train-The-Trainer classes in Europe. Today, I am currently one of only two Mentor Trainers for Final Cut Pro X in the UK.
I diversified my training in 2011 when I became an Adobe Certified Instructor for Premiere Pro and was also among the first in the world to recertify as an Apple Certified Trainer for both Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5. More recently I have expanding my expertise further by becoming a certified trainer for DaVinci Resolve and since 2017 I have have been running DaVinci Resolve 14 Train-The-Trainer courses for Blackmagic Design.
I have delivered training in video editing to university students and staff, broadcast journalists, sports, factual and drama editors. I have also run bespoke training in video production for a variety of private and public sector organisations and charities throughout the UK and across Europe.
I live in Worcestershire with my partner Samantha and her two children. When not working I enjoy long walks, reading post-apocalyptic fiction, listening to hard rock and blues music, and binge-watching the TV I invariably miss. I'd like to add DIY to this list, but admitted a long time ago that I'm just not very good at it.
